The Cay Blog Writing |
|
For this assignment, you will need to think of the dedication that Theodore Taylor wrote for his book, The Cay. You will need to create a paragraph to explain why you think he dedicated his book to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In order to do a good job of that, you will need to read a short article about Dr. King. Follow the link below to do so.
Think about what you know about Dr. King and how Theodore Taylor wrote his dedication.
Open up a word processing program. We have Microsoft Word or Appleworks from which to choose. You will be able to rough draft your ideas directly in the word processing document. Be sure that you edit your work, move ideas around, add ideas and improve your writing through the week. Keep in mind: your audience is potentially anyone in the world with access to the blog site that we will use in posting your piece.
Each day that you add to or change your document, be sure to save it. Be sure that you give it a name that makes sense such as: You need to think of the following topics as you create your blog:
Be sure that your paragraph has a great topic sentence to catch the reader's attention but also outlines what the writing will be about. You will need detail sentences to explain your ideas. You needn't provide a ton of details-remember that this is just one paragraph. However, you need to make sure that you provide good proof for your thoughts. You also need a strong final, conclusion sentence.
When you have finished your rough draft, be sure to edit and revise your writing. You should also find someone to edit with you. You can print out a copy and work from that copy, if you wish. When you feel you are finished you will need to print a copy for Mr. La Marr. Score yourself on the rubric and staple the rubric and writing together. Once you turn it in, it will be scored, so be certain you have done the best that you can on the writing before turning it in. You will likely get it back to make corrections, so try to avoid having to make a lot of corrections by doing a good job the first time.
Have fun with this. Put some high level ideas together with some excellent wording to explain your ideas.
