Action verbs for active people!

Words that add action to a sentence are called action verbs. These verbs tell about action you can see (for example: run, hit, jump, laugh) and about action you cannot see (for example: like, think, believe). Set your timer for one minute. Then underline the action verbs in the sentences below.

 

1. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of freedom for all people.

 

2. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.

 

3. Albert Einstein thought too much in class.

 

4. Mark Twain worked on a riverboat on the Mississippi River.

 

5. Even though she was blind, Helen Keller was able to read, write, and finish college.

 

6. Grandma Moses painted until her hands were too weak to hold a brush.

 

7. Wolfgang Mozart composed music when he was five years old.

 

8. Marco Polo traveled from Venice to China.

 

9. Eleanor Roosevelt carried the message of world peace wherever she spoke.

 

10. Chief Joseph wished his people did not have to fight for their land.

 

11. Harry Houdini made his audiences believe in magic.

 

12. Benjamin Franklin taught himself algebra, geometry, science, logic, writing, grammar, and five foreign languages.
